The Alley Pond Environmental Center was founded in 1972 by a group of educators concerned over the lack of suitable provisions for environmental education in the public school curriculum. Alley Pond Environmental Center (APEC) is a private, non-profit corporation dedicated to establishing an awareness, understanding and appreciation of the environment and the responsibilities associated with preserving the environment in an urban setting. With events throughout each month as well as fascinating educational programs, APEC has become a great environmental steward for Queens and the greater city.
